In the mountains, this instrument has been called a “wild mountain” dulcimer.  But the dulcimer is one of the oldest instruments known, dating back to Egyptian times.  I don’t live in the mountains and I’ve never been to Egypt. So this one took a more refined direction, emulating some details found on a violin and a ram’s horn top.  Although machines make tuning a little easier, using pegs picks up the classic beauty of a violin.  This model has a deep, rich dulcimer tone, and gets a little wild sometimes too.
