This project started as a system to construct lutes. The form shown below was designed to allow for easy gluing of the staves making up the back of the lute, and the inlaid veneer accentuating the faceted shell of the lute body. The Rose (carved decoration in the sound hole) combines a threefold and fourfold symmetry, which was a challenge to say the least.
